DESIGN CRITERIA 2018

CRITERIA:
In keeping with the spirit of the Festival of the Trees, the point of departure for the design must be representative of the holiday spirit but does not have to be a tree. This year, we ask that designers address the theme of “Connecting the Dots: Design, People and Places” For the past thirty years South Florida has been home to many creative and exceptional designers, many have contributed their many talents to the continued success of this event. This year we continue to celebrate excellence in design and the creative spirits behind it!

The Festival of the Trees is not responsible for any lost, late, or damaged entries. Winners shall be selected by a panel of independent judges. All designs must be an original design and/or the concept. If any entry is not original or does not follow the criteria, the tree will be disqualified from all awards.

The categories for judging are: Most Elegant, Most Colorful, Most Sustainable, Most Creative, Most Illuminating, Most Progressive, Most Whimsical, Most Thematic, Most Animated, and People’s Choice.

SIGNAGE / LOCATION / ELECTRICITY:
The Festival of the Trees Committee will provide a sign with the Designer/Sponsor credits. No advertising will be permitted as part of the display. The Festival Committee will place all the submittals on pedestals strategically placed in the gallery setting. Note: The location of your tree is at the discretion of the committee. If you need electricity for your tree, please indicate such to the committee AT LEAST TWO (2) WEEKS PRIOR TO THE EVENT.

SIZE:
The design should not exceed 24” x 24”. The height should be determined by stability and practicality. Your design must be able to stand atop an 18” x 42” pedestal. The weight should not exceed 80lbs and should be able to be moved easily by two people. All trees must be displayed on the pedestal provided. If you choose to have your own, your design will be ineligible for judging and prizes. The pedestal provided is NOT to be altered or covered.

AUCTION:
Please submit a sketch of your design by October 25 with the Design Credits. We will be auctioning your piece. We understand that a lot of hard work goes into the fabrication of the trees, but due to the mission of the auction to raise funds for student scholarships, we ask that each team please submit a starting price between the amount of $50 and $300. Please provide a small label or signature on or under the object. ADEQUATE PACKAGING MATERIAL SHOULD BE INCLUDED so that your tree can be handed over to the buyer safely. Proper packaging should include bubble wrap and a box.

Please note that trees not sold at the auction will be donated to the Cortxia Foundation. The Cortxia Foundation is a non-profit organization with the mission of revolutionizing the education sector by understanding genomic coding to identify its roles in cognitive barriers and learning disabilities.

JUN 15 Online pre-sale tickets available
SEPT 28 Deadline for purchasing tickets at early bird price
OCT 26 Design credits due: designer or firm name, sponsor name, concept statement, sketch or photograph of piece, and starting bid price
NOV 2 Deadline to have your name included in the program
NOV 14 Tree set-up at Moore Bldg 6pm – 8pm, Moore Building 191 NE 40th St, Miami FL 33137
NOV 15 Gala Opening Event: Party / Silent Auction 6:30pm – 9:30pm
